I get an underline for a spelling mistake when I type in "invited"; however, the built-in Apple Dictionary application says that is the correct spelling. It suggests when I right-click on "invited" that it should be spelled as "invitied". The word "invitied" can not be found in the built-in Apple Dictionary application.
MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)
from finder
hold down ALT key and go to
Go>Library
scroll down to spelling
Right click "LocalDictionary"
and duplicate (this is your backup in case you need it later)
open "LocalDictionary"
Edit in TextEdit
Save
Type the word the way it should be spelled. When the little autocorrect box pops up, click the "x" to close it. Highlight the word, right-click on it, then select "Learn Spelling."
Or, similar to what pinkstones suggests, type Invited, right-click on it and choose "Unlearn Spelling."
You may have to do this in TextEdit. I think it works in other things, but I know it works in TE.
As Invited isn't auto-corrected on my copy of El Capitan, I'm guessing that you somehow "Learned" the wrong spelling.
Dictionary is wrong for "invitied" ... should be "invited
