After IOS 9.x update Airplay not properly (or not at all) working on Gen 2 iPads

Hello. We just recently updated our Gen 2 iPads to the newest IOS and we noticed that we cannot connect to our Apple TVs anymore. The iPads do not show Airplay or, sporadically, shows Airplay, but when selecting the Apple TV outlet, it won't connect -- after a few seconds it will revert back to the regular screen (no blue AirPlay bar on top of iPad).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
