iTunes not syncing completely with iPod! Help?

I have spent all day trying to figure out how to completely sync all of my songs. On the music library of my iTunes, it shows I have 202 songs. On my iPod, it shows I have 160 songs. I can't seem to keep the number the same. I have purchased all of my songs. None have been obtained illegally. Can someone please help me?
