why did my phone automatically turn off? :(

About thirty minutes ago I updated my phone and it was working beautifully until I began listening to music on youtube and received a text message, so I clicked on the message and it didn't allow me to do so. Instead, the whole screen turned black but the music kept playing. I continuously attempted to press the lock button to see if it would turn on but it still hasn't. What should I do?
