How can I find out if I have used my Itune gift card without registering to my account

If I have not used it I want to give it to someone as a gift

It I already have it connected to my account I assume I can not gift it to someone else

You can't without trying to redeem it onto an account. Does the card still have the silver strip on it covering the redemption code ?
