Q: Apple TV (4th Gen) causing much frustration- Movies from my computer will not play, it turns TV on in the middle of the night

Answers can only be as helpful as the details provided and you did not provide any.   Just saying "does not work" does not give anyone anything to go on.    What happens when you try to play content?   Is there an error message if so what is it?

That is false.   It has no ability to control your TV to turn it on or off.

And answers can only be provided by people who know what they're talking about...you do know Brian that it can turn on your TV, and often does just by accidentally brushing the touchpad (when the ATV is already off as well)?

Right now I'm just dealing with issues related to its ridiculously small cache for streaming local content. Brutal.

Um...yes it does.  Mine turns off/on my Sony receiver all the time... 

Mine turns off/on my Sony receiver when I use the remote and during the night, when the Apple TV 4 performs an update.
