Can't adjust track levels in monitor mix while overdubbing.

Can't adjust levels of instruments for a monitor mix while overdubbing. Everything, including what i'm recording, is full-on loud.

Using GB 09, Mac OS 10.6.8,presonus firestudio with the universal control software to (try) to route it...Thanks very much in advance.
