how can I reset an Apple ID with out signing in to the old one?

I just bought an iPod 5, and they forgot the icloud (Apple ID) password. I connected it to iTunes and restored it through turning it off, holding the home button while plugging in the port... you get the point. Now it wants me to use their Apple ID email and password to activate it and i dont have it. i cant get to anyting with out it. there is probably not a way to do it, but if there is GREAT, let me know. Thanks 😀
