Cannot access redemption code for gift

My friend gifted me a season of a tv show. I received the email, but there is no code or anything listed. When I clicked "redeem now" it took me to an itunes download page, even though I already have itunes downloaded. I'm assuming it's because I don't have an updated version of itunes, but I don't want to update it. Is there something I can do to redeem the gift?
