thunderbolt display doesn't wake up

I have recurring problem with new thunderbolt display that doesn't always wake up.

it is connected to iMac late 2015. All software up to date.

It is problem especially as I have files open on on thunderbolt display that I can't see so I can't save.

If I could save I could restart all. Im afraid of loosing my work.

What to do?

Happens ALL THE TIME to me from my macbook pro. Apple's thunderbolt displays when they work are great... just getting them to recognize they are connected is a bit like being a PC owner. It just works.....eventually. Just plan about 10 minutes of frustration each time you hook it up and you'll be delightfully pleased with your purchase.
