Apple iD Data

I have a fifth gen ipod touch and just got the sixth, both have the same account data. I chose the profile of the old ipod to use on the new one so I could have all my stuff on it. If I delete the data from the old ipod will my account and ipod profile be erased on the new product as well? I want to know because I am planning on giving the old ipod to someone and I dont want them to have my data and messages.
