Q: 10.10.5 client finder search of 10.10.5 server not working

To set the stage:

Server: 10.10.5 Mac Mini (Late 2014) running Server 4.1

- Services enabled: File Sharing, Time Machine, VPN

- File sharing > Share point - Share over SMB and AFP. Permissions for client are Read & Write

Client 10.10.5 iMac (2015)

Network - CAT6, Ethernet network, gigabit switch directly to server. NOT WIFI

Search at server: Finder search of folder/items on share point (external drive) return immediate and correct results.

Search at client: Finder search (over network) of same folder/share point returns correct results on some searches and 0 results on others—where items are known to exist.

If the folder being searched from the client is unselected, then reselected, sometimes search results are returned correctly. Sometimes it requires multiple combinations of selecting, deselecting, then reselecting the folder and re-searching in order to get search results.

This problem is not isolated to one client workstation. This issue occurs an multiple iMacs on the same network.

Any clue as to why search results are inconsistent? If so, what can be done about it?

(NOTE: Holding off on 10.11 upgrade until known issues with Creative Suite and Microsoft applications are worked out)

Thanks in advance!

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), null
