when i tried to update my mac to the latest os it said i didnt have the right packages and now it wont let me exit out of the os installer so i cant use my mac

I see that you are experiencing an issue with your ability to update your Mac. I would like to suggest that you force quit the installer first:

You may also want to try to boot into safe mode, as explained here:
