Is an sd card good for extra storage.

I am thinking about getting a macbook pro retina and was wondering if the 128gb model would be enough. I plan on just using it for school projects and watching youtube/movies and some light gaming. If I do run out of space is using an SD card a good option to add storage. Would I be able to transfer all my stuff of the ssd to the sd card. Thanks
