May I use an external flash memory drive for my photo library and still sync with iCloud?

On Iphoto I was using an external flash memory for my library. Once I migrate to Photo App it created a new library about 9GB on my Mac. I wanted to have that photos on the cloud and on an external flash memory not on my 120GB internal memory.

but if I remove the pics from my Mac it removes everything on th cloud and all my devices as well.

How can a do that?

MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), 2 GHz Intel Core i7

Create a new, empty Photos library on your flash drive. Then enable this library as your iCloud Photo Library. Now the photos will download from iCloud to this new library. Once all photos have been downloaded to the flash drive, you can delete the library from your internal drive.

See this Help Page on how to work with several libraries: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht6d60b524
