i accidentally deleted an excel file. can i get it back?

Restore it from a backup, or try using a data recovery product such as the ones listedhere. Don't write anything else to the drive until the files are recovered or you choose not to recover them.

Thanks for your reply. I am flipping out! All excel data from this entire year! I am so non-techy. I am not sure how to restore it from a backup. Would you mind telling me how? thanks a million
If you set up a backup system, the instructions depend on the product used. If you backed it up by drag-copying it, drag the file back.

How did you delete it? If you deleted it in Finder, have you looked in your "Trash" ? A trash can should be in your dock, click on it.
If you wrote "over" it with an app, it might be costly to get it back, depends on the app, it may be easy or impossible. But more urgently, if you want to go that route, the first thing you should do is stop using the computer. Maybe shut it down and don't restart it until you know you don't want to try to get it back. You will need help or at least a second computer.

I didn't actually delete it but it is gone. I was trying to copy it into a new workbook. But for some reason it didn't work although I have done that a million times before. So I went to delete the copy and both were gone. All data from the original workbook was gone. There is nothing in my trash can although I did not empty it.
Yeah! Definitely, you can get back deleted excel. But before that, let me ask one question. Have you accessed system for writing new data? If its so, then the chances of recovery is less because the deleted file might overwritten with new one. Else, can recover excel by applying professional tool which is specially build for recovering data.
