I am doing exactly what rkaufman87 has suggested with my late 2013 27" iMac.

I am using one of the Seagate Thunderbolt "sled" adapters with a 480 GB

Sandisk Ultra II 480GB SSD (had some really good pricing) which I had updated

from a Toshiba Qseries Pro 240 GB about a month ago. Both were/are performing

very well and is a significant difference vs. the internal HDD. The system is set up

with the SSD as boot and the internal HDD is a clone backup.
