AppleTV 4th Gen not showing in Itunes

Am i missing something? Recently got an AppleTV 4th Generation and its not showing up in ITunes on my mac. I can use it as airplay speakers but can't sync any content with it. I've seen a number of articles which relate to the older Apple TV units, my iTunes version is 12.3.1.23.

I don't really want to home share all the time on to my apple tv if i don't have to.

ATV4 is a streaming device. Apps are the only content it stores locally. They are downloaded directly to the ATV. You can't do it via iTunes.

Your local iTunes library and your ATV4 are talking via Home Sharing only.
