I have been prompted to use mackeeper to clean my imac. Is this a good idea?

my iPhoto stopped working and my mouse seems to need to be held steady for a second before i click it. I am wondering if mackeeper.com is safe to use.

Absolutely not. It messes with your OS and wreaks far more havoc than help. Who "prompted" you?

FWIW, you are not running iOS on your Mac - which OS version are you on?

And, please post details on exactly how/why/when/what happened when iPhoto stopped working.

Is this iPhoto version one you downloaded from the app store or did it come with the computer or was there an iLife disk with iPhoto on it? It may just be an older version which needs to be updated (the easy solution) - which version is it?

The prompt on your screen are ads/scams trying to scare you to install/buy/pay for support.

If you're using Safari, take a look:

I don't know/remember if that was the correct version for 10.8.x; I do know that there was a problem with Yosemite - here is the tip:

Since you only have ML, I don't know if that would apply or not. And here is another thread that dealt with that:

Do you have it listed in your Purchases list at the app store? If so, it won't hurt to delete your current copy from the Applications folder and download/reinstall it from the app store.
