Is MacKeeper junkware or legit?

Hi All,

A customer is getting a pop up "Activate MacKeeper to enable Automatic Cleanup blah blah blah". Is this junkware or legitimate?

If it is legitimate, any opinions as to if it is a good idea?

Many thanks,

Absolutely none of them. There are literally no viruses in OS X, so there's nothing to look for. There are Trojans in various forms, but AV software cannot stop those since they are installed by you.

MalwareBytes for Mac (formerly AdwareMedic) does one thing, and one thing only. It looks over your system when you choose to run it for adware and removes it if present. It is not an active AV package in any way.

Hmmm. Isn't this kind a thing a "Windows" thing? Oh well, Mac is not is the Big League! :-)

Just out of curiosity, would Malware Bytes' scanner for Mac have removed this?

Remove what?

MacKeeper?

No never.

All it removes is adware.

To remove MacKeeper if it has been install you must use an uninstall procedure for MacKeeper/
