Apple ID recently reset now iCloud will not accept? I am trying to backup an old iphone for the purpose of transfer to new iPhone.

I have an old iPhone that I want to backup to iCloud for the purpose of transferring to a new iPhone.

I recently reset my password for Apple ID and now I cannot get into iCloud on the old iPhone. Message continually goes to reset password window.

Please advise how to get into iCloud for backup.
