bose sound link air wifi problems

Hello, i recently updated my macbook pro to El Capitan . I have a Bose sound link air wifi speaker that worked fine till the update and a few days after that as well . Suddenly speaker lost connection a few days ago and since then it is impossible to connect it again to the wireless.

When i plug it in the socket it lights the blue wi fi sign on the speaker makes the connection noise and starts to blink but nothing happens.

I try to connect it with the cable but always shows me "an error has occured" sign in the bose sound link setup and the wi fi cannot be found .I tried to reset the speaker holding the reset button under the speaker till the amber light lights on but speaker still doesn t find the wireless. I have a BT home hub 5 .

I don't know what else to do guys .... i am thinking to bring another computer and check if i can connect it with that one as with my macbook looks impossible unless i need to modify something . Speaker works fine if i put it in Aux mode and connect it with a jack to jack cable to the phone or iPad.

Please give me an advise or a solution if possible . Many thanks ! G

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Hey kosminul. Did you ever get this to work or get a reply? I have the exact same issue (but windows). I have tried using the cable on 3 different laptops with different OS and same result. Seems more to be an issue with the speaker.

I contacted support and their only response was that it looks like it needs service, or to be replaced. they offered me a discount on a newer model (it's no longer under warranty of course).

Windows 7, Windows 10.

Thanks

Hello everyone,

Does anyone has news about this issue?

I have exactly the same problem as kosminul. I tried to set up my speaker with 3 different computers (all Macs with El Capitan), but I always have the "An error occurred" message. I will try to contact the Bose helping services and hope that they got the solution, but if someone has a clue on it...

Thank you !

I am experiencing the same problem on my iMac and iPhone 6. After updating to OS X 10.11.4 on the Mac and to 9.2 on the iPhone, my Bose Soundlink Wifi Speakers stopped working. They appear in my list of airplay speakers, but iTunes on my Mac returns an error every time I try to connect. On my iPhone I get no error, but no sound either. If anyone knows how to fix this issue, please do share your knowledge. Thanks!

Well, I fiddled with my setup and I figured a fix to the bose soundlink air streaming problem. The solution may even work for other airplay speakers. Here it is step by step:

1. Turn off all your Apple devices (iMac, macbook, airbook, iPhone, iPod, iPad, etc.).

2. Turn off your Bose Soundlink Air speakers (or whatever airplay speakers you are having trouble with).

3. Turn off your wifi router

4. Make sure all your devices (Apple, speakers and router) stay off for at least 30 seconds.

5. Turn everything on in the following sequence, making sure each device has powered up completely before turning on the next one:

- router

- speaker (don't turn anything else on until the speaker pairs to your router)

- iPhone, iPads, etc.

- Lastly, turn on your iMac, macbook pro, etc.

6. Test if your iPhone or iPad will stream to your airplay speakers through iTunes.

7. If that worked, make sure you deselect your airplay speaker on your iPhone before the next step.

8. Test if your iMac/macbook will stream to your airplay speakers through iPhone in single speaker mode, then try multiple mode.

9. If that worked, make sure you don't stream to the same airplay speaker from two devices simultaneously. That seems to be causing the problem.

If these steps do not work for you the first time around, do not give up and try them again. I tried rebooting all my devices several times. It finally worked when I did it in the order described here. It might have been the particular order I did things on the last try or maybe it was a connection problem that simply took several rebooting attempts. I don't know, but if it has anything to do with the particular order in which I rebooted the devices, router and speakers... well, then, I thought someone else with the same problem might benefit from my solution.

Please note that the problem may resurface if you try to stream to the same speaker from more than one device simultaneously. At least, that's what I think happened in my case the first time. Not about to recreate the problem if I can avoid it. ;-)

Let me know if this worked for anyone else. Best of luck.

Hello,

Thank you for your post. I tried to follow your instruction but unfortunately it did not work for me. In fact, in my case, I changed my routers not a long time ago, and never could connect my speaker to it.

I also discovered that when I reset my speaker, it does not even produce it own network. So I guess that I might have another problem and will go visit a Bose shop to ask for support 😟

Anyway, I hope this will work for other person !

Hi Kech,

Same symtoms here: my Bose SoundLink Air does not produces its own WIFI network, therefore alternative setup is not possible; and of course when trying to set up the speaker with the USB cable provide I get the error message constantly. Full reset for 10 seconds does not work neither...

Did you solve the problem yet? Any thoughts on what could be wrong?

Carlos4z, Kech1409 and/or Kosminul,

DI'd any of you get this figured out? I have the same issue and I believe that we are all on the same page with obtaining new routers and now getting an error message when connecting with no alternate ways to try and get around it (cannot do the manual suggestions because no Bose Wi-Fi option shows up.

Aby help or input would be appreciated!!!

Hello Zcnelson,

As for me, I tried on other networks, but nothing changed. So I went to a repair shop and they told me that in my case it is the wi-fi card which is out of service, what is very expensive to repair with Bose (as I am not under guarantee anymore 😟) ... I hope you are not in the same case and that you will find how to fix this issue !

OK, thanks for the update. Mine is less than 3 years old, and it only just stopped working once we changed routers/cable providers. In fact, I was let into the setup (prior to the error message) and I think I accidentally input my password wrong. Ever since then, nothing works and it simply shows me the "an error occurred" message regardless of whether I un-plug, dis-connect, move the device, attempt to locate the Bose network manually, etc etc.

Very frustrating but it sounds like calling the support team gets people nowhere.
