Our iOS9 iPad has developed a 'divided' keyboard half on either side of screen when attempting to send a message! Help!

Hello, my wife just announced that her iPad i0S9 has developed what I can only describe as a 'split' keyboard, In other words, half the keyboard will be on the lefthand side of the screen, an annoying space in the middle, and the remainder on the far right side. The

keys, etc. are all there but this doesn't do much for speed and is annoying the h**l out of her! I hope someone out there has a fix...to make my life a little easier.....thank you!
