Dates missing under 'History' tab

When I click on 'History' in Safari, the dates section between 're-open last closed window' and 'clear history' is missing. If I click on 'show history', the website and address fields are both blank - again, there are no dates under the 'website' header. Does anyone have any idea how can I get the history to show again, please?
