I'm having trouble finding el capitain software in itune store or app store. I'm running a MacBook Pro, maybe from around year 2009. OS 10.6.8. Anyone know why I can't even find where Apple Software is in the iTunes or App Store?

Mac software is in the Mac App Store, the apps that are in the iTunes app store are for iOS devices only.

Suggest use caution when downloading El capitan to make sure download is uninterrupted. I had a communication loss half way through my download and spent hours to get corrected as it froze my machine. I have learned my lesson and do major updates in the Mac Store ! If available.

Ignore that, the Mac App store is the only source for El Capitan.
I think that by Mac Store the user above ment that he goes to an Apple Store or 3rd party vender where he is sure of a stable internet connection. I believe Apple Geniuses will also install OS X for free.
