Q: MacBook 12 Win 10 Power Issues

A week ago got a Macbook 12"  128Gb, installed El Capitan, Boot Camp 6 and Windows 10 in a clean installation.

Everything has been OK BUT.... 8 out of 10 times when I connect the power source (USB-C) the computer freezes. I have waited for 15 min and nothing.

The only way to restore it is to shut it down holding the power button for 10 sec. and then restarting it a few times until everything loads up.

It seems that there is something related to the drivers, how they are loaded...any clues?

Does this happen on OS X, Windows or both OS?

    thanks for the interest,

I have only detected the issue in Windows.

When I plug the power cable and it doesn't freeze, it does when I unplug it. The power Icon (Windows) stills showing that is charging without the power connected. After plunging or unplugging it, sometimes the frezzing is progressive but a few commands (eg, writing a few letters) it slows down and get stuck.

Can you check if you have any unknown devices in Device Manager (yellow triangle with exclamation mark) or a missing driver? This is a symptom of a missing ACPI driver.

    1. Can you expand the Batteries tree and post a screen shot?

    2. Can you run the following two procedures and test?

Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

    Dear Loner T,

The NVRAM reset solved the issue !!!!

    Everything is working fine now.

I suppose that the SMC reset is not needed, Am I right?

    Thanks for the help.

As requested, this is the Batteries tree screen shot pre NVRAM reset.

The SMC Reset rebuilds the hardware database (amongst other things). If it is working just with the NVRAM reset, you do not need the SMC Reset. However, if you are missing any devices, then a SMC Reset would help.

May I also suggest a backup of OS X, Windows and creation of a Windows System Restore point. Please be careful with driver updates that emanate from Microsoft Windows Update on Macs. I usually disable automatic updates and check manually, at least once a week.

    Hi,

I have bad news, the issue still happening.

After a few cycles of normal shut down and start, the system goes into freeze if I start with the power cable attached. Same thing happens if it is removed or plugged in.

I have reset the System Management Controller (SMC) and it works but after a few cycles (2-4), the system gets into the same problem.  I have also reset the NVRAM but there is no perceptible change.

Just downloaded the event viewer log for today if it is os any help (Critcal/Erroa/warning view)

Can you run Apple Hardware Test? The device

    ACPI\ACPI0008\4&194e8026&0.

is failing to either power up or down as battery state changes. Most likely suspect is your Wireless card. It can also be because your WiFi signal strength is not consistent. Does this happen with All wireless networks, or just specific ones?

Run the Apple Hardware Test : No Issues => ADP000

I have used different networks and in behaves the same way in all of them.

Signals have been stable in all of them.

Hi CPA.CL, I am sorry to go off topic, but how do you manage to install windows 10? it has been impossible for my due to the "AppleSSD.sys" issue (driver not signed). Did you install a 32 bit or 64 bit Windows? Thanks!
