iPhone photo import problem

I have started having problems importing photos from my iPhone 6 Plus into Photos on my Mac. The phone shows in the sidebar of Photos, but none of the new photos are shown for import. In fact no photos are shown on the phone at all. The phone will still sync with iTunes. Anyone have any ideas?
