My videos in Photo will not play!!!

Since I started using photos, my videos will not play. They appear but when you attempt to play them the image just sits there and nothing happens.

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

You're not answering the question. Why don't videos stored in "Photos" play? How do you get them to play? They just sit there like images. Is there some kind of trick? And by the way, as a former PC user, this is NOT very intuitive to require a trick to get videos to play in the video library. Very frustrating.

Hi Texas244,

Thanks for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.

It looks like videos in your Photos library don't play. Did you play these videos from your iPhoto library before you updated to OS X 10.10.5?

First, I'd recommend trying the Photos library repair tool by following the steps at Use the Photos library repair tool.

...if Photos behaves unexpectedly, the Photos library repair tool may resolve the issues.

If the same thing happens after repairing your Photos library, try importing a new video into Photos to see if it plays--Overview of importing photos and video.

Additionally, export one of the videos from Photos to a folder on your Mac and try to play the video from there--Export photos, videos, and slideshows.

The results of these two tests will help get a better idea of what to troubleshoot next.

I let the repair tool run and still had the same problem. I imported a video and it played fine and then I exported a video that was not working and it did the same thing. I also exported a video that was working and it worked fine.

It sounds like a new video imported into your Photos library plays fine, and a non-working video plays fine after being exported out of the Photos library.

If I understand the situation, it's only some videos that were migrated from your iPhoto library to the Photos library (after upgrading to OS X Yosemite 10.10.5) that don't play in Photos.

If that's true, you may want to follow the steps given by forum user Old Toad in Videos Imported from iPhoto Cannot Play in Photos to export the non-working videos out of your iPhoto library and import them into Photos again manually.

If that step doesn't help (or if I'm misunderstanding the situation), you may want to contact Apple Support using one of the methods at https://expresslane.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.
