how do i know the media is imported into imovie?

I thought the media was imported into imovie (but must have imported straight from the camera instead of from a created file in finder). Now the video won't upload to youtube since it's needing the camera memory stick to find the media. How do I go from here? I tried to import it over and over again but it won't work.
