my phone was stolen and I want it to be unusable even if they reformat it. Is there any possible that it can malfunction the system?

I want my stolen phone to be unusable even if they reformat or resell it to the point of malfunctioning its system so that there won't be illegal reselling of 2nd hand phone.

Did you have Find My iPhone set up on it? If it was running iOS 8 or higher and Find my iPhone was active in the iCloud settings, it will be activation locked. There is no way to bypass the activation lock. It will be unusable. If you didn't, there's nothing you can do.
