How do I disable the password in my iPhone 5s?

I need to disable the requirement for a password or at least extend the time the password remains active. When I plug the iPhone 5s or the iPad Air 2 to my MAC to perform the required backups to the MAC and to iCloud, the function halts prematurely due to the need for a password.
