email address being used by another apple id ?

under iCloud settings on my iPhone 6 after i log in iCloud using my apple id, it shows primary email address, then alternate gmail address, then rescue comcast email address.

Under password & security: i am trying to remove (since i am changing services) a comcast email address which is my rescue address, and use my alternate gmail address as my rescue address.

i noticed that my alternate gmail address is listed as "pending"(not verified), while all the other emails are checked as "verified". (primary and rescue). so i clicked on the pending gmail address to attempt a verification by email. when i did that it stated "...@gmail address being used by another id" I tried to delete it and resubmit same gmail address as "Add another email address" but it came back as "...@gmail address being used by another apple id" again. So my question is what should i do??

I have the same ******* problem! I ******* created 5 brand new email addressed and 5 new apple id's and is the same ******* thing! ****!!!!

Do you have another Apple ID that is using the G-mail address as a rescue e-mail?

That's an interesting scenario partner... May I ask you something?

Have you recently renamed or modify you ID on any way before logging out from iCloud on that device?

If so, you may wanna refer to the KB article

If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID in iCloud - Apple Support

And as well If you find it kinda complicated contact Apple support so they can give you some insight about this matter (i've tried that article before and it does work but you need some tech skills to make it work)

Hi,

I have a similar problem - my AppleID is linked to a Hotmail account which I don't use anymore since quite some time. I want to change it to my current Gmail account, however, I can neither add the Gmail account as secondary email nor change the email address completely as I'm also getting the "address being used by another id". I've tried to log in with the Gmail account and getting a password reset. But now I'm getting "account recovery not available. There is no active account recovery request for this AppleID".

What do I need to do to change my AppleID from the current Hotmail one to my active Gmail email address?

All steps so far haven't worked.
