Cannot get sound when inputing a guitar

Imac - using OS X Yosemite version 10.10.5

When inputing a musical instrument such as a guitar using Logic Pro 9 I can see the signal coming into the computer but no output sound?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
