Can i format my hard drive without turning the mac on?

The logic board on my mid-2010 macbook is faulty, the result of which is that i cant turn the macbook on (this has been confirmed by a guy at the genius bar). my question is, since i cant turn the macbook on, can i still format the hard drive?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

You would need to physically remove the hard drive from the computer and then attach it to another computer using an external enclosure or adapter. There isn't any way to format it in the current computer if you can't turn it on.
