I use Photos associated with El Capitan. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to add a caption that will overlay an image in a slideshow.
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)
Create a slideshow, select a photo in the film strip with the slideshow, then press the "+" button to the right of the film strip and select "Add Text". Enter the caption you want to se overplayed on the slide.
