When starting up my macbook how to I get access without having to give username and password?
> System Preferences... > Security & Privacy > un-check Require password
That is the password required when you step away from your computer and the screen locks automatically. gav14 wants to NOT enter their password at startup.
That is the "automatic Login" option in:
System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Options
From the Automatic Login pop-up menu, select the User who you want to auto-login from the list, and enter their password when requested. Close the window and save changes.
Thanks, yes I misread.
When I go to Users and Groups, the automatic login option is grayed out and I can't change it. I would like to not put in my password everyime I start up my laptop.
to get it NOT grayed out, you need to click on the lock and enter your Admin Username and password. If you have only one account, you are the Admin.
Thanks for your input but I did do that and it is still grayed out.
Sseveral things are required (or required not to be) in order to enable automatic login.
1) can't be using FileVault--defeats the purpose.
2) can't use an AppleID for login.
3) It must not be disabled in Security System Prefs.
Check if in panel Security and Privacy, subpanel General, you have checked the box: disable automatic login.
