Why does my iPad tell me storage is full when I am streaming video

I have been streaming videos on my iPad and it keeps telling me that storage is almost full, but it has 3GB of space on it, it then cuts out the video and won't let me watch it, I have updated my software to 9.1. Please can someone tell me why this keeps happening? Its annoying that I can't watch videos on my iPad.
