HOw do I delete unwanted/unneeded built-in apps such as 'Find My Friends'? These apps are a pain in the butt. If I want these types of apps, I should be able to simply download them from the App Store rather than having them forced on me!!

You can not delete the built in Apps, but you can let Apple know your displeasure at: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
The good news, all the built in apps use only 150 MB of space, they're not taking up a lot of room. Most people put the unwanted apps in a folder on the last home screen. Some apps can be turned off in restrictions.
