How do I set up separate iCloud account for family members

My wife just got a new iPod Touch, how do we set up iMessage to send & receive text-messages from/to her iPod and from/to her iMac 21-inch, and not from my Apple devices that use the same Apple ID (MacBook, iMac 27-inch, iPhone 5, Apple Watch)?

I have been trying to set up a new Apple ID, but the setup process requires an email address. It does not allow an iCloud.com, mac.com, me.com address. Maybe that's a separate question. But, how does she set up a new Apple ID when her only email address is the one associated with our iCloud Account? Thanks. Especially for your Quick Response!

Thank you. I'm trying that now. I have a Yahoo Mail account that I never use. I'll try to set up a new Apple ID using that email address and see. Thanks... again! ... for your quick Reply and good advice. I'll keep trying set by step till it's done. Clearly she will want her own Apple ID. It looks like she can receive mail and texts from more than one iCloud account, anyway. I would just not activate my devices to connect with her Apple-ID/iCloud-Account. Right? Thanks!

I set up a new iCloud/Apple-ID account, with my existing (but nearly-never-used) Yahoo Mail address. But now my new Apple ID is a yahoo.com address - yuck! Is there any way to set up a second iCloud/Apple-ID account and have the email address look like an Apple address? I know this sounds whiny, but I haven't been able to find anything on Apple's own iCloud help pages. I definitely do not want to start receiving the mass of junk mail that the Yahoo Mail address now receives; more than one or two every day - yikes! That is precisely why I never use that address. Thank you. Again.

Yes there are ways to set up an ID with an Apple Address as the primary address but you really don't need to, remember all Apple ID's should have a primary and alternate address, one should be an Apple address and the other a non Apple address and it doesn't really matter which since you can sign in with either. Just go to My Apple ID and create yourself an Apple address you can use with Mail. Indeed just turning on Mail at settings > iCloud may prompt you to create such an address.

Thanks. It will not allow me to use an Alternate Address that is a domain owned by Apple. My wife will just go to a Genius Bar and ask the Specialist how to set up her iPod Touch to send/receive text messages (with attached photos) from/to her iPod using her cellphone number. The problem we are trying to solve is that iMessage uses MY cellphone number. So, if she sets up iPod's Messages with our existing iCloud/Apple-ID Account, she will get all of my text messages and none of hers. Thanks. Again, thank you! I really really do appreciate your help, pointing me in the right direction, and preventing me from trying solutions that would never work.

That really doesn't seem right to me, one of the purposes of iCloud is to provide you with an @iCloud IMAP address. Did you try enabling Mail at settings > iCloud.

You aren't by any chance trying to use an address that has already been used.

Thanks. Yes, I enabled Mail at settings > iCloud. Now I get all the Yahoo Mail junk on the new iCloud. It doesn't allow an Alternate Address to be any Apple owned domain. That's the catch, in order to verify your Apple ID, they have to send you an email with a code to a non-Apple address. I guess. As you say, the whole idea is to provide us with an @icloud IMAP address. I did try the existing iCloud/Apple-ID address, but that is not allowed. And, I tried a new iCloud/Apple-ID address, not allowed. Sigh. Again, thanks. We'll go to the Apple Store and ask a Genius who can try things out in real-time with my wife's iPod and my MacBook. Thanks!
