Do iMac fans stop when in sleep mode
When the iMac goes into sleep mode do the cooling fans stop, slow down or keep running?
I am guessing they stop but am interested to know.
Thank you.
iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

They should stop unless the temperature is excessive.

Thanks for your very prompt response. It sort of crossed my mind earlier as we go into summer and right now the ambient temp is quite high. I watch my temps via iStat Pro during the summer months after my previous iMac was affected by high temps and used to go into the blue screen.
I assume the fan speed varies with temp but so far I have not seen an increase in speed so thinking the fans are coping. Temps have risen by 10 deg C from the norm today after giving the system a workout. Normally run in mid 20's but now in mid 30's. Fan speed around 1500rpm.
No the fan doesn't stop while on sleep mode. My IMAC is in my bedroom and fan starts and stop on sleep mode every 10 minutes or so, sometimes it make me mad when I'm having trouble finding sleep. It's NOT because the screen is hot nor because of my bedroom's temperature it's always around 21 or 22 degrees celsius in my bedroom.
Then you have some problem as I have never even heard my fans - sleeping or not.
No I never hear my fans either. Thanks for your response.
You didn't mention which iMac you have or which version of OSX you are running. If it supports Power Nap you may want to check if it's enabled and disable it if so. See if that helps.
Otherwise, I agree with babowa, the fans should not be audible in sleep mode or even at idle so you may have an issue.
I have a late 2013 iMac running latest OS El Capitan. I do not have an issue it was something I wondered about one time and could not find any reference to the fans so posted on Communities. I did have an issue with my previous iMac which went into the blue screen if it got too warm but this mac is running just fine.
I was actually replying to df5web. Have a good New Year. 😎
OK sorry I missed that but thanks for your comment. Happy New Year to you too. It is already a day old here in New Zealand. Well almost..
Thank you dialabrain,
My iMac is: Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014, OSX Capitan version 10.11.12
I need to leave my iMac on sleep mode for commodity, unfortunately my computer is installed in my bedroom (I don't have any other choice).
Thank you so much! 🙂
