How do I fix iTunes, when i go to open the program I get -42037 iTunes error

Just had the same problem - apple support was no use and wasted my time. However, the following worked for me on my MacBook:

in Finder, go to applications and right click on ITunes and select 'show package contents'.

Open the contents folder and move contents to Trash. Whereas you can't move the whole iTunes App to trash as it says it is needed for OS X, you can delete the contents. Note this is the app and NOT your library, so no worries.


Once done, go to the App Store and wait a few moments until it realises that your iTunes is not what it once was! You should then receive the prompt in the 'Updates' view, allowing you to reinstall iTunes. it's all done in less than 15 mins and my music is once again playing as I type this!
