Keynote will not quit and not autosaving

I've been using Keynote for years will no issues, but recently I find that I can be working on a presentation but when I go to quit the program nothing happens. I need to restart the computer and reopen Keynote. Often I've lost a lot of work so it doesn't seem to be autosaving frequently. I'm using an older MacBook Pro (2010) and El Cap, also installed all updates. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro (17-inch Mid 2010), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Hey there epn5,

I see that you are having some issues with Keynote on your Mac. If you haven’t yet tried, I would like to suggest that you delete Keynote and then redownload it onto your computer. In order to do this, first you should view your past purchases in the Mac App Store and make sure Keynote is shown in that list:

Download your past purchases - Apple Support

Then, you may follow the instructions in the following article for deleting Mac App Store apps:

OS X El Capitan: Install, update, and uninstall apps

Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

Thanks for your help. I increased my ram from 4 to 8 GB and so far the issue hasn't occurred again,(one day). I'm hoping that will resolve the problem but if not I was going to try to redownload as you say you suggest, but I've not done it before so I very much appreciate your help and links in case I need to do that. Thanks again.
