My IPad has my ex-wife's Apple ID that appears but I don't know her password - and NO WAY to get it. I want to do a factory reset but can't get by the password requirement. Can you help? I have an Apple ID but hers keeps coming up first.

You have run into Activation Lock. There is no way around it unless she agrees to remove it.
Turn off Find My iPhone Activation Lock - Apple Support
If you have the original receipt of the purchase of the iPad you can make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and clear it.
