From what it sounds like to me, your iPhone is probably set up under his Apple ID for iTunes. Go to Settings | iTunes & App Stores and make sure it is your Apple ID. If it shows your dad's Apple ID, click on it and you should have the option to sign out and then enter your own Apple ID and then you should be able to download your own apps without your dad needing to install them first.
