Will final cut pro run well on a Macbook air with the best configuration?

Good afternoon,

I am thinking of buying a new laptop. Do you think that a macbook Air with the configuration below will be enough to work well with Final Cut Pro? My footage are generally in AVCHD.

13-inch MacBook Air

  • 2.2GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
  • Intel HD Graphics 6000
  • 8GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
  • 512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
  • Backlit Keyboard (English) & User's Guide

Thanks a lot for your answers!

I would venture that…it depends on the kind of projects. If they are not long form (say, under 30 minutes) and not terribly complex (with lots of effects, compositing and graphics) it should be fine.

That said, I don't have first hand editing experience with that MBA. If you can visit an Apple Store, they will have demo machines and stock footage stored on the demos so you would be able to test for yourself how that model performs.

Good luck.

What Russ said. However, have you considered a MacBook Pro? For $50 (US) more you would have 2.9 Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 512 SSD, a retina display. Plus, 2 TB ports and an HDMI port. Also better graphics. The 2.9 i5 should be comparable if not superior to the 2.2 i7. Unless you have a special deal on the MBA, the economics suggest that the Pro is a better deal. Just a suggestion. Good luck.
