Cannot locate devices (iphone, camera) connected to USB with El Capitan upgrade

I have recently upgraded to El Capitan. I am trying to upload photos to lightroom using the usb ports for my iphone and camera but neither are being recognized as devices. I also tried to locate the devices using finder but no luck (I may just not know the proper way to do so). The only program recognizing them is of course photo library which I have no interest in using. I did have some luck using my memory card from my camera to upload to lightroom but still no solution for the iphones. Please help!!!
