Q: Can I access content from an external hard drive through my Apple TV devices?

I have 2 (older version) Apple TV devices and would like to know if I can access content from external hard drives through them. Also, I'm considering purchasing the Airport Time Capsule, would those devices allow me to access content from an external hard drives with Apple TV?

Not directly no. You would need to add that content to an iTunes library on a computer, and then access the library over your network.
