Adding new wireless device to wired Apple Airport Network

I need to add a new device to communicate wirelessly with a wired Wi-Fi Apple Airport network. Should I first add the new device with cable, then detach and move to where it is within the Wi-Fi coverage of the wired network?

If the device will connect using wireless, then you would want to set it up that way initially.

Start with the device near the AirPort router and get it connected. Then, move the device where you want and the connection will remain OK as long as the device is located where it can receive a good WiFi signal from the AirPort router.

What device are you asking about?

Some printers require a wired connection for setup, even though the printer might be configured to join the network using a wireless connection....but in general, you would set up a device the way that it will be used on the network.

If there are questions about the setup, it's always best to follow the instructions in the setup manual for whatever device that you have.
