Will Game Center profile transfer from iPhone to iPad?

I currently use an iPhone 4, with a couple of requisite games on it, one being Plants vs. Zombies. I'm seriously considering getting an iPad 3 to perform various tasks, including my Plants vs. Zombies, and wonder if my Game Center profile will be recognized on the iPad. Has anyone else started out on an iPhone before moving on to the iPad, and kept information current?
