iTunes won't let me use backup

Today I got the 6s, and I'm trying to restore from a backup of my 5s that I did earlier today. However when it gives me the options for backups I don't see the one I'm looking for. When I plug in the 5s it says that the last backup from it was today and when I go to preferences the back up shows there. Is there anyway I can use the back up? Thanks.

Chances are your new phone is not updated, so it can't find the backup you made on your more recently update device.

Ex: Assuming your iPhone is iOS 9.1, backups made in this version can't be used on phones that aren't updated to this version.

Solution: Update your phone! You'll have to set it up as brand new, update it, then go to settings > general > reset > erase all content and settings, to reset the phone to factory settings then restore from a backup!
